Barbara Kingsolver in conversation

What a pleasure it was to be in conversation with the phenomenal US author, Barbara Kingsolver.

Three hundred people came along to hear Kingsolver talk with me about her award-winning novel, Demon Copperhead.

Kingsolver discussed how she channelled the spirit of Dickens – her ‘genius friend’ – to create this passionate, urgent re-visioning of David Copperfield.

Awarded both a Pulitzer Prize in her home nation of the USA, and the Womens Prize for Fiction 2023, this incredible, inventive novel is full of righteous anger and literary verve.  

This was Kingsolver’s first ever visit to Scotland. The evening event was hosted by The Portobello Bookshop and took place at the Church Hill Theatre in Edinburgh on Friday 2 June.
