Literature Works First Page Writing Prize

I’m absolutely thrilled to have won first prize in the Literature Works First Page Writing Prize for 2013.

This competition is for the opening page of an unpublished novel. I submitted the first 300 words of my book Buried or Burned, along with a short synopsis, and was amazed and delighted to win first prize.

The competition is run by Literature Works, the literature development agency for the South West of England, but open to anyone across the UK.

As they are based in Plymouth and I am up here in the north, I went to Creative Scotland this morning to be awarded my certificate by Emma Turnbull the Literature Development Officer on the roof of Waverley Gate. A fantastic 360˚ view of Edinburgh (and not too cold!).

I now get the first three chapters of the novel read by a literary agent, which is great timing for me as the final draft is almost complete. A wonderful early Christmas present!
