Maggie O’Farrell at The Portobello Bookshop

I am very much looking forward to chairing the wonderful Maggie O’Farrell at Portobello Bookshop in Edinburgh.

Maggie and I will be talking about her new novel, The Marriage Portrait – a vivid re-imagining of the life and early death of Lucrezia de’ Medici.

Lucrezia lived in Florence in the mid 1500s. She was married off at the age of 13 to Alfonso d’Este, the Duke of Ferrara, entering his court in 1558 and dying there in 1560 aged just 16.

She is the subject of Robert Browning’s famous dramatic poem, My Last Duchess.

The event takes place live in-person at The Portobello Bookshop in Edinburgh and online on Thursday 8 September, from 7-8pm

Tickets ranging from £3 (for livestream) to £25 (including a copy of the book) are still available from Portobello Bookshop.
